Abstract

It is necessary to evaluate the sustainability of watersheds based on sustainability indicators in order to achieve a sustainable development approach that guarantees the preservation and survival of watersheds. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the stability of Taleghan basin using the WSI sustainability index. According to the WSI index, the degree of watershed stability is determined by scoring each of the hydrology, environment, livelihood, and policy sub-indices in the range of zero to one. In this research, by averaging the 4 sub-indices of this method, the hydrology index score is 0.45, the life index is 0.58, the environmental index is 0.58, and the policy index is 0.66, and the WSI value is calculated as 0.56, which indicates that that the level of stability is lower than the average level. The results of this research can help watershed planners and managers in determining priorities and management measures in order to maintain or improve sustainability indicators.
